Construction volunteers should expect to work on anything from framing, dry walling and roofing to painting and landscaping. Volunteers may come as individuals or as a member of a group. All individual volunteers who are new volunteers must sign up for an orientation. All construction volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.
This people-oriented position is responsible for greeting volunteers, collecting waivers, issuing nametags, answering questions about the Habitat mission and helping to plan and implementation of home dedications. Site Hosts may also give tours, assist with Camp Habitat and help with promotional events. All new site hosts will be trained prior to volunteering.
The following positions require prior training and experience with Habitat for Humanity, Valley of the Sun.
Responsible for building houses per construction drawings and municipal codes. The House Leader is responsible for overall site safety, which includes conducting safety lessons and monitoring volunteers. Leads volunteers through all phases of building the home. Works very closely with Habitat Construction staff.
Works closely with House Leader to teach/guide small groups of volunteers on the construction site. Assists the House Leader with the overall safety and productivity of volunteers.
Assists with data entry, filing, copying and other office projects. Positions are available Tuesday-Friday 10:00a.m. - 4:00p.m.
Provide meals for volunteers on the construction sites.
Works with faith communities around the Valley to introduce them to Habitat for Humanity. They also work with current faith partners to strengthen their involvement with our affiliate. Committee meets once a month.
Assists staff at various events throughout the community. The Habitat Ambassadors do not meet on a regular basis. There is training once a year to update the volunteers on the doings of Habitat.
Works to increase the awareness of Habitat for Humanity Valley of the Sun in the community. Committee meets once a month.
Committees assist staff with the homeowner application process, orientating new homeowners and mentoring the families during the construction process of their homes.
Provide assistance in the ReStore with greeting and assisting customers; cleaning or testing products; pickup, loading/unloading of donations. Positions available Monday-Saturday 9:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. Volunteers in the ReStore must be 15 years of age.
The Deconstruction crew goes into homes that are being demolished to salvage any usable items such as cabinets, lighting fixtures, ceiling fans, sinks, etc. We will contact you once a project is scheduled to see if you are available.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, Valley of the Sun. We offer many ways to be involved -- from participating in the actual construction of new homes to helping in the office, working in the ReStore, serving on a committee, providing lunches, and assisting with fundraising and/or marketing. The first step to volunteering is to attend an orientation session, where you will learn about the amazing things Habitat has done both here and around the world. You will also learn about various volunteer opportunities so you can choose the one(s) that suit(s) you best.
